I'm in a gospel choir and needed something a bit more high-tech than the cassette I've been using. I figured, why not spend the extra 50 bucks or so to get this, as opposed to a "plain" voice recorder. And a few people in the choir recommended this one. Once I did step up and buy this, I find the fidelity acceptable, but the controls are terrible! You move the left and right buttons to navigate up and down in the menu. It takes about five clicks and pressings of buttons to delete tracks from the recorder. And you have to press record twice to record (in fairness, this is a pretty cool feature - you can set the recording levels before actually recording).
And the battery life is atrocious - You will need to buy rechargeable batteries with this. And, it's easy to leave on, and there is no automatic shutoff, so that will kill your batteries too. I've averaged about 2 1/2 hours of use before replacing batteries - I'm replacing batteries once every two weeks for my weekly choir practice.
This sounds negative but overall I'm happy with it - see the star rating.

This recorder offers a very good choice of both recording and playback modes. Its file storage system is very flexible. It loves batteries but NiMH seem to work OK. Be prepared to read and absorb a lot of documentation.

The Zoom H2 is an incredible digital recorder particularly at the price. I play with a pop/rock trio using electric drums and we play all play through our PA head. I take a line out from the PA head and input it to the Zoom H2, balance the music and vocals, and make incredible live recordings. The first time I used it, I just put it on the floor between the guitar, bass, drums and vocal speakers and got a very good recording with no distortion at all. You can't beat this one for the price.

I have been using the H2 for over a year now, and I will say this thing is the best bang for your buck. I bought this one for a friend. It is great for field recordings or recording concerts. Or rehearsals. Or song ideas while you are on the road. Or whatever. It can handle a huge amount of sound pressure without overloading and is very easy to use. Rugged, affordable, and the sound quality is grade A. The built-in dynamic microphones do the job nicely.
